AMOY

After leaving Canton on the 21st I immediately

left for Amoy to visit Lieut: Col: John. F. S. Lee.

Chinese Air Service Pilot. Amoy China.

He is in charge of a Training School started by

himself in Manila, from where he apparently obtain the

necessary money to carry on the work.

The aerodrome is about six miles out of Amoy on

the Island of Amoy. It can hardly be called an aerodrome,

it is so small that the Colonel informed me that he was

afraid that he would not be able to carry on there and

that he would soon find another place.

There are several machines, I saw one Eagle Rock

Biplane, made by the Alexander Aircraft Corporation of

Colorado Springs, it was in fair condition. They in-

formed me that there was another of these machines, I

did not see it. In an old building there were two or

three German machines, they were in such a dreadful

condition that they are not worth consideration.

Colonel Lee informs me that he has 20 pupils and

hopes in the very near future to organise an Air Service

between Amoy and Nanking, and that he is doing his best

to obtain the necessary support from Manila. He hopes

to buy 6/8 passenger machines and has asked for parti-

culars of British Machines.

The most important development in Amoy is the

formation of a Flying School under the direction of the

Naval/
